With 25 years of service in District 8, Jennifer Joynt is proud to serve as the Superintendent of this remarkable district. Her experience, starting as a teacher in the South Bronx, serving as a principal for over a decade, and now leading the district for seven years, has provided her with the robust perspective needed to guide such a diverse community. As Superintendent, her role is to serve the District 8 community and its stakeholders—families and students alike. In this work, she oversees our 36 schools, ensuring that students are safe and receive the best education possible.
Deputy Superintendent
Executive Director of School Support and Operations
Camille serves as one of the District 8 cabinet leaders, supporting operations, logistics, and management. She supervises and collaborates closely with the team and school leaders on attendance, student services, operations, enrichment, and community/family partnerships and engagement. With compassion, she leads district initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for all students.
Chief of Staff
As Chief of Staff, Joseph helps ensure that our schools receive the instructional support they need to position teachers and students for success. When not analyzing data or providing professional development, Joseph spends his time in the best possible place: classrooms! His true area of expertise lies in mathematics, so he is incredibly excited to see NYC Solves in action in District 8!
Attendance Teacher
As a District 8 Attendance Teacher, Ivette's responsibilities include assisting and supporting the District 8 schools in locating students with attendance issues. Ivette conducts home visits to ensure the safety and well-being of families and meet with attendance teams to discuss at-risk and chronically absent students.
DAIS
Nelson develops, plans, and delivers professional learning series for district leaders and educators in the areas of Science and ELL instruction. He analyzes district data to provide data-informed solutions to leaders and educators regarding ELL instruction across all content areas.
Nelson schedules and engages in instructional visits to create action plans for improving instruction using research-based strategies. He also facilitates professional development for school leaders and educators in the district using research-based practices to support ELL instruction across content areas.
Dr. Collins supervises and supports Attendance Teachers and lead district-wide initiatives to improve student attendance and reduce absenteeism. Dr. Collins responsibilities include providing professional development, conducting data analysis, and ensuring compliance with attendance policies while collaborating with community organizations, shelters, and foster care offices. Additionally, Dr. Collins manages the My Brother's Keeper program and related grants to enhance student engagement and attendance.
Intensive Reading Interventionist
As the Intensive Reading Interventionist, Carla plans and implements explicit, systematic interventions for students in grades 4 and 5. She assists with screening for the risk of dyslexia and other language-based learning differences, as well as collaborating with school teams to identify students in need of support.
Attendance Teacher
As a District 8 attendance teacher, Josie collaborates with our schools and community to provide support aimed at improving attendance.
Attendance Teacher
As an Attendance Teacher, Tuesday is an integral part of both the school community and District 8, where she fulfills her responsibilities. Tuesday engages in collaborative efforts and maintains consistent communication with the designated district team members to enhance attendance rates within District 8. To combat chronic absenteeism, Tuesday supports school communities by reaching out to families through phone calls, emails, and home visits.
AIS Coordinator
As part of the ELA Team, Meridith works to improve literacy instruction in our District 8 schools. While our work spans from 3K to 8th grade, her focus is primarily on the youngest learners. Meridith supports our 3K and PreK leaders and teachers in Creative Curriculum, as well as K-2 leaders and teachers with our High-Quality Curricular Resources in Foundational Skills (Fundations and Heggerty) and Language Arts (HMH Into Reading), along with Assessment and Progress Monitoring tools (Acadience and iReady).
Attendance Teacher
As an attendance teacher, Daiana works collaboratively to support our District 08 schools and community in order to improve attendance.
Family Support Coordinator
As a Family Support Coordinator for District 8, Silvia addresses unresolved family concerns, manages communication between families and schools, and promotes family engagement activities. Silvia also represents the district at events and ensures that issues are documented and resolved efficiently.
Teacher Development and Evaluation Coach (TDEC)
As a TDEC, Ellen supports school leaders and their assistant principals in implementing Advance by providing job-embedded support tailored to each school’s needs. Ellen's responsibilities include conducting school site visits, ensuring accurate ratings using the Danielson Framework, and developing systems for effective teacher feedback. Additionally, Ellen uses Advance completion reports and MOTP data to guide school leaders in tracking progress and analyzing teacher developmental needs and next steps based on school-wide patterns. Ellen also assists the administrative team in aligning the Advance program with district-specific priorities, fostering continuous improvement and professional growth among educators.
Student Service Manager
Andrea supports schools with crisis management, de-escalation, and the implementation of intervention procedures, resulting in respect for diversity and engagement in meaningful opportunities for social-emotional learning. Our goal is to promote a positive school culture by providing individualized support to students and families and ensuring that resources are accessible to all. Additionally, Andrea conducts monthly professional development meetings for all counselors, social workers, and climate/culture school teams.
District 8 Administrative Assistant
As the Administrative Assistant for District 8, Darlene ensures the efficient operation of the office and maintains a positive work environment for the Superintendent and District 8 team members.
District Achievement Coach and Instructional Specialist
In this role, Linda leads the implementation, development, and improvement of District 8 literacy practices to promote the learning of all students, particularly in grades 6-12. She manages the design and refinement of districtwide standards-based resources and instructional guidance to support a comprehensive Pre-K through 12 instructional program. Additionally, she provides professional learning for school leaders and educators in grades 3-8 across the district and offers targeted, individualized in-school support.
ML/ELL Compliance and Performance Specialist
Juan supports schools in ensuring that their ELL students are appropriately identified at the time of enrollment. When ELLs are identified in a timely manner, they receive the necessary and mandated instruction immediately. CPS provides updates on ELL policy metrics and supports schools to ensure these requirements are met.
Office of Policy and Evaluation Lead
As the Office of Policy and Evaluation Lead, Jasmine supports schools with academic policies, NYS assessments, and performance by leveraging DOE systems and data analysis to ensure compliance with NYC Chancellor's Regulations and NYSED accountability standards.
Director of State and Federal Program Implementation - Districts 8, 11, and HS Districts 7, 9, and 1
As the DSFP, Adrienne is responsible for implementing state and federal workflows in support of Community School District and High School Superintendents’ teams and schools. This work involves coordinating efforts at the Superintendent level and overseeing the continuum of interventions that must be applied according to Title I, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and the requirements for schools identified by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for improvement interventions in support of CSD 8, 11, and High School Districts 7, 9, and 11.

As an attendance teacher, Yolanda works with schools and families to decrease chronic absenteeism. Part of her role includes conducting home visits to identify issues and provide support to increase attendance.
District Achievement and Instructional Specialist
Support school communities by creating, coordinating, and facilitating professional learning opportunities for school- based staff that is grounded in the SOR and aimed to strengthen literacy content knowledge, pedagogy, and assessment practices. Also, providing continuous support through school visit, analyzing student data and meeting with school teams.
Attendance Teacher
As a District 8 Attendance Teacher, Alexander is responsible for ensuring that students attend school. Alexander works closely with parents, schools, and other agencies to improve attendance. His duties include making home visits, contacting families by phone or email, providing resources, and supporting teachers and schools in their attendance efforts.
Intensive Reading Intervention
Sonia is a Intensive Reading Interventionist who is responsible for developing and sustaining literacy skills for students in the lowest 16% so they can access and master core instruction. In this role Sonia, plans, implements, and provides explicit, systematic interventions to target specific areas of need. Additionally, interventionists analyze multiple data points, including diagnostic assessments and secondary screeners, to inform decisions on student placement and select prescriptive research-based programs. Progress monitoring is an integral part of this work, ensuring consistent weekly tracking of students' success in the interventions. Moreover, Sonia collaborates closely with school leadership teams to offer essential instructional support to teachers by fostering a culture of data literacy and facilitating the creation of strategic small-group instruction aimed at helping students achieve their reading goals.
Family Leadership Coordinator
As the Family Leadership Coordinator, Vanessa supports parent leadership groups such as Parent/Teacher Associations, School Leadership Teams, Title I PACs, and the Community Education Council to enhance parent engagement, involvement, and empowerment in District 8 schools.

AIS Coordinator
Rosanna is part of the District 8 Literacy Team. Her job entails planning with the team, facilitating workshops, and supporting MTSS. She is also the lead for foundational skills in K-3 classrooms.
Administrator of Special Education (ASE)
Under the leadership and direction of the Superintendent, the Administrator of Special Education (ASE) provides compliance and policy guidance to principals, assistant principals, and teachers. This support strengthens their ability to implement the Chancellor's vision of reimagining the student experience and delivering a rigorous academic program to improve achievement for students with disabilities (SWDs).
Specialized Student Support Lead (Special Education)
Joseph serves as the main point of contact for Instructional Support for Students with Disabilities. He works closely with administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals across the district to help them implement systems and structures while understanding best practices for Specially Designed Instruction (SDI).
District Partnership and Enrichment Coordinator
Rochelle supports school communities by creating, coordinating, and facilitating professional learning opportunities for school-based staff that are grounded in the Science of Reading (SOR) and aimed at strengthening literacy content knowledge, pedagogy, and assessment practices. Additionally, Rochelle provides continuous support through school visits, analyzing student data, and meeting with school teams.

As a District 8 attendance teacher, Raisa assists students and families in identifying barriers and work to provide solutions in order to increase attendance.
